It is with great regret that Durham & Teesside Group have had no option than to cancel the Tanfield Ride as Derwentside Council say the road crossing at Causey is too dangerous.

Sorry for any inconvenience

All entries will be returned ASAP

Ride Description

Our very first ride of 2008, lets hope it doesn't snow.

The venue is Watergate Park, Lobley Hill, Gateshead which has ample hardstanding for parking.

The route is varied starting off through the park itself with all it's wildlife, some disused railway track, a bridleway alongside the Tanfield Railway (you will be past this before the first train), then along a grassy track before crossing the main road at The Causey Arch (pub open for Sunday lunches). A bit of roadwork next before a blast uphill through the wood. On the way back you will see most of Tyneside as you descend back down to Streetgate before returning through Watergate Park.
