Tanfield Ride 6th March 2011

Ride Report

Durham & Teesside Group started their season of rides with The Tanfield Ride at Watergate Forest Park at Gateshead. At ten to eight on the morning there was only myself, my husband Stuart and Vicky Uca in the car park. The weather was overcast and a bit on the chilly side and the place looked deserted. We set things up and Vicky donned the bright yellow jacket and went to the entrance. Within minutes the first trailer arrived closely followed by others. The ride helpers arrived and soon we were ready to start. Thank you to all who helped on the day as rides will not run unless people are willing to give up their time. Thank you to Vicky Uca who was the first aider on the day and the car park marshal. Thank you to John Mills at CP1 and to Sue Gamble and Angela Shutt at CP2. Thank you to Stuart for helping me to mark the route, for being the time keeper on the day and for sorting out any problems I have with the computer and printer when technology laughs at me. Thank you also to all riders for supporting the ride. On the day 56 riders rode the route which was a brilliant turnout and the sun even came out. The free bib draw for a magnum of sparkling wine was won by Barbara Austin. Finally thank you to everyone for tidying up after themselves. It only took me five minutes to check the car park at the end and I greatly appreciated this.
