This year we had a new venue.  One that was very accessible from the main road and ample parking.  On the Saturday Sylvia Briggs, Karen Fairbairn and I met to walk and mark the route.  I had already marked quite a bit on the Friday – bits I could do by car. 
With the venue being altered it slightly altered the distances, so we put in a little bit here and there to make up the distances.  So I think we were walking for about 5 hours.
I had decided to stay at the venue overnight as one competitor was coming down from Ambleside, so at least I wouldn’t be on my own.  My husband brought the group caravan down for the TS and I brought my horsebox down for the secretary.  I had only just arrived in the field when the daughter-in-law of the farmer turned up to say they had double booked the field – with a car boot sale – Arhhhh!  But she said you will be fine – they like horses.  Or you can move into the next field with the highland cattle – they too apparently like horses, just shoo them away – I could feel a coronary coming on here!  But we will come up early and put them in the small paddock.  I said I could do that – I will just shake a bag and they will come a running.  So at five in the morning, I donned my high viz coat (minus 2 outside) and went and shook my carrier bag – and they charged up the field, with me running like hell into the paddock.  Well, they did come in like little lambs.
The only problem was that the vehicles would have to use the same entrance as the car boot people.  Luckily, they were not coming in until about 11:00 ish, by this time all the endurance people would be in the field.  But they all had to cross over the field when riding and come back that way.  But as true endurance riders you all did extremely well and represented your sport very well.
The farmer came and asked was there anything he could do and he would do this, this and that for next year. So things look good.  Anyway, the weather and the venue were wonderful only the marker movers caused problems.  But a good day all round.  Thank you for everyone’s support and help.  See you all next year.
