Committee Member
I have been involved with horses for just over 40 years, (makes me feel old) and taken part in most disciplines but have been enjoying endurance riding for the last 7 years. I have found it to be the friendliest discipline, everyone is always willing to help and I have made some really good friends.
I started off in endurance with Bramble...a cuddly, lively little pony who sadly is no longer with us. I now have Sammie, a 14hh bay mare, I have had her for nearly 5 years...brilliant temperament but no brakes as anyone who knows me is well aware...she will go forever but is reluctant to stop.
Endurance has given me the opportunity to ride in wonderful countryside...no road work and allowed me access to areas that I would never have had otherwise.
Even though my other half John is not at all horsey he enjoys the day out and is great at crewing, looking after me and Sammie. I wouldn't be able to manage without him.
Away from Horses I work for Cleveland Police in the Control Room on the Police radios. I work 4 x 12 hr shifts, 2 Days 2 nights which does include working weekends so trying to plan work around the rides is quite difficult. Like a lot of people, I don't get enough Annual Leave for the year.
I hope to continue with both Competitive and Training rides and will also be helping out at a number of rides this year so no doubt will see you all out and about.....
