***Waskerley Ride now rescheduled. Click here for more information*** ENDURANCE RIDING - The
fastest growing equestrian discipline in the UK. Endurance riding in the UK is managed by Endurance Great Britain and in Scotland by the Scottish Endurance Riding Club. Durham and Teesside Group of EGB is one of the subsidiary groups of the National organisation, in total there are 23 groups covering England and Wales. Each group manages the rides in their area. ![]() WHAT IS ENDURANCE RIDING? Riding across the
beautiful open country of Great Britain, within certain speed parameters and
conforming to the necessary veterinary checks. The distances covered in
any one day can vary from 15 kilometres at grass roots Pleasure Rides to 160
kilometres in top level Race Rides. WHO CAN COMPETE IN
ENDURANCE? All horses and ponies
are capable of competing at the lower level Pleasure Rides providing they are
hacking fit, over longer distances a reasonable amount of dedicated training
is necessary. Riders from 8 years of age can compete although juniors
and young riders may need to be accompanied by an adult. There are also
plenty of opportunities for the rest of the family to become involved as
crews are very active in this sport and the friendly atmospheres of the
discipline encourages people to become involved in the organisational aspect. OPPORTUNITIES Those who have a
competitive nature are able to go as far as their and their horses’
capabilities allow them as there are ample opportunities to progress through
the qualifying levels – Novice to Open and then Advanced. Although many
long distance riders are happy to remain at the Pleasure Ride level and have
their own trophies and awards to compete for within the Durham and Teesside
Group. The national organisation has a very active international team
who offer help and support to those wishing to continue their careers into
the International level. New to endurance? - You might find this link helpful |
